BSN Round 3 (Regular Season): Bayamon defeat Aguada

This is still too early stage of the Regular Season in BSN and we should expect many changes in upcoming rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Santeros (4-1) in Bayamon on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by Vaqueros (4-2) 96-79. Bayamon dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Santeros's 36. Bayamon looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. It was a good game for the former international guard Gary Browne (185-1993, college: WVU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. The former international Javier Mojica (189-1984, college: CCSU) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Vaqueros' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward John Brown III (203-1992, college: High Point) answered with 13 points and 4 steals for Aguada. Vaqueros is looking forward to face Aguada on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Santeros will play against Caguas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Sixth-ranked Piratas (0-5) were very close to win a game against Capitanes (4-2) in Arecibo. Capitanes managed to secure only two-point victory 79-77. However their fans expected easier game. It was a great evening for American guard Derrick Walton Jr (185-1995, college: Michigan) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points and 8 assists. Jack McVeigh helped adding 23 points and 8 rebounds. Capitanes' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Dominican swingman Victor Liz (190-1986) with 21 points. Capitanes will play against Ponce (#4) at home in the next round. Piratas will play against Mayaguez and hope to get finally their first victory.
A very close game took place in Guaynabo between Mets and Capitanes. Mets (3-2) got a very close home victory over Capitanes (4-2). Mets managed to escape with a 2-point win 93-91 on Saturday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Jaysean Paige who led the winners and scored 30 points and 5 assists. Thomas Robinson came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds for Capitanes in the defeat. Guaynabo will meet Quebradillas (#6) on the road in the next round. Arecibo will play against Ponce (#4) and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 3: Caguas were beaten by Santurce on the road 107-102. Ponce lost to Mayaguez on its own court 85-90. Bayamon managed to outperform Mayaguez in a road game 86-79. Ponce managed to beat Quebradillas at home 102-90. Carolina defeated San German on the opponent's court 104-97.
The most impressive performance of 3rd round was 24 points and 17 rebounds by Montrezl Harrell of San German.




Santurce - Caguas 107-102

There was a small surprise when Cangrejeros (3-2) beat Criollos (3-2) in Santurce 107-102 on Thursday. Santurce made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Caguas outrebounded Santurce 40-24 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santurce looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Malik Beasley (196-1996, college: FSU) who led the winners and scored 34 points (!!!). Naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands guard Walter Hodge (183-1986, college: Florida) accounted for 21 points and 6 assists for the winning side. American point guard Travis Trice II (183-1993, college: Michigan St.) came up with 28 points and 8 assists and international power forward Alexander Kappos (208-1997, college: Dalhousie) added 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Caguas in the defeat. Four Santurce and five Caguas players scored in double figures. Criollos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total thirteen players in this game, but that didn't help. Cangrejeros will meet at home San German in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Criollos will play against Manati and hope to secure a win.

Arecibo - Quebradillas 79-77

Australian forward Jack McVeigh (203-1996, college: Nebraska) helped adding 23 points and 8 rebounds. Capitanes' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Dominican swingman Victor Liz (190-1986) with 21 points and DR Congolese guard Emmanuel Mudiay (196-1996) scored 11 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Capitanes will play against Ponce (#4) at home in the next round. Piratas will play against Mayaguez and hope to get finally their first victory.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Leones' (2-4) home loss to Indios (1-4) in Ponce 85-90 on Thursday. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Davon Jefferson (203-1986, college: USC) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. Nigerian guard Olumiye Oni (198-1997, college: Yale, agency: Slash Sports) accounted for 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side. Indios' coach Ivan Velez used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Avry Holmes (185-1994, college: Clemson) came up with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import center Isaiah Hicks (206-1994, college: UNC, agency: Slash Sports) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Ponce in the defeat. Four Mayaguez and five Ponce players scored in double figures. Indios will meet at home Quebradillas (#6) in the next round. Leones will play against Arecibo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather predictable result when Vaqueros (4-2) won against Indios (1-4) in Mayaguez 86-79 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 25-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Vaqueros dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Indios' 30. Vaqueros forced 19 Indios turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for the former international power forward Renaldo Balkman (203-1984, college: S.Carolina) who led the winners and scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. The former international guard Gary Browne (185-1993, college: WVU) accounted for 8 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals for the winning side. Four Vaqueros players scored in double figures. Nigerian guard Olumiye Oni (198-1997, college: Yale, agency: Slash Sports) came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists and the former international swingman Benito Santiago (197-1989, college: Cumberlands) added 23 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for Indios in the defeat. The game between closely ranked teams ended with Piratas' (0-5) road loss to Leones (2-4) in Ponce 90-102 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Ponce. Quebradillas managed to win fourth quarter 26-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Terence Davis (193-1997, college: Ole Miss) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 8 rebounds. The former international guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991) accounted for 21 points and 9 assists for the winning side. Leones' coach Carlos Rivera used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. DR Congolese guard Emmanuel Mudiay (196-1996) came up with 29 points and 4 assists and Dominican swingman Victor Liz (190-1986) added 11 points and 6 assists respectively for Piratas in the defeat. Five Leones and four Piratas players scored in double figures. Ponce will meet Arecibo (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Quebradillas will play against Mayaguez and look forward to get finally their first victory.

A very close game took place in Guaynabo between Mets and Capitanes. Mets (3-2) got a very close home victory over Capitanes (4-2). Mets managed to escape with a 2-point win 93-91 on Saturday evening. Arecibo trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 25-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 91-93 at the end of the game. It was an exceptional evening for the former international Jaysean Paige (188-1994, college: WVU) who led the winners and scored 30 points and 5 assists. International center Ismael Romero (205-1991) accounted for 25 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. American center Thomas Robinson (203-1991, college: Kansas) came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds and Australian forward Jack McVeigh (203-1996, college: Nebraska) added 22 points respectively for Capitanes in the defeat. Four Capitanes players scored in double figures. Guaynabo will meet Quebradillas (#6) on the road in the next round. Arecibo will play against Ponce (#4) and hope to secure a win.
